Isotopes
Single channel video. 14 minutes 23 Seconds. Looping.
As a consequence of his time working in Canada’s uranium industries, every year my Grandpa has to go to Sudbury, Ontario for CT scans of his lungs due to his high-risk of lung cancer. Isotopes animates and layers his years of scans - 52 in total, into a larger than life intimate view of a body, a career, and a lifetime shaped by the toxic legacies of nuclear industrialism. Accompanying the animation is a score derived from the isotopes of uranium, which are transcribed into musical notation, and played on guitar, creating a haunting piece written by the radioactive material itself, as it has been inscribed upon my Grandpa.Preview:
