Untitled Beet Project

Exploring the medicinal and material properties of beets, Untitled Beet Project investigates the current and potential future industrialization of uranium mining in Nova Scotia. Woodblock prints are made from photographs taken within Nova Scotia’s uranium deposit zone, where well water and basements are at high risk of radon contamination. The ink used in printing is made with beets, as beets have a chemical property that protects DNA strands from radioactive mutation. Combined with shelf-stable dehydrated beets, the project looks at ways we can protect ourselves from a radioactive issue that will only get worse as the provincial government pushes towards uranium extraction.
