A tension between industry and tourism exists along the waterfront in Goderich, Ontario. Self-hailed as “Canada’s Prettiest Town”, Goderich’s tourist areas and industrial zones blend into one as both share the same districts and are accessed by the same roads. When relaxing by the beach, the salt terminals stand starkly behind. When walking the scenic trail across the Menesetung bridge, the large blue factory lingers in the horizon. That being said, while visiting in early January, there were nearly no tourists around, and it was evident that Goderich relies on their industry in the off-season months. And so, how does a small town manage the balance between these two at odds industries, and how can Goderich preserve their moniker as "Canada’s Prettiest Town" while staying economically viable?
